Matchbook Learning focuses on a blended, competency-based model for struggling schools seeking to deliver a radically different result with students of high-need communities.
We have had three successive phases to realize our vision to create a sustainable, scalable turnaround solution for our nation's public schools.
I. Design, Launch & Iterate on the Model (2011 - 2017)
We have iterated on our personalized, competency based school model in six different turnaround schools spanning two cities, Detroit and Newark. In every school we've partnered with or directly managed and run, we've experienced double digit gains in absolute proficiency according to State Assessments while simultaneously delivering dramatic gains from students' starting points when they came to us. We've launched our model both as a turnaround partner with District Schools as well as a charter management organization of charters and charter restarts.
II. Accelerator Strategy (2017+)
We launched our Accelerator in Washington, DC, partnering with Orr Elementary for eight months during a planning year to build leadership capacity. Orr Elementary lauched our Spark platform and personalized model in their school that they run in the Fall of 2017. Based on the success of this 2017 launch, we will consider a small exclusive cohort of Accelerator school(s) in 2018. Learn about our accelerator.
III. Proof Point Strategy (2018+)
We seek to prove our model locally in order to scale its underlying methodology nationally. We have selected Indianapolis as the focus of where we would like to prove our model's ability to turnaround a low performing school's performance. We hope to launch a charter restart of a low performing school in Indianapolis in 2018.
