There are three reasons why we chose our name, Matchbook Learning.

Foundationally, our schools will be to our children what a matchbook is to a matchstick…catalytic.  The potential of every child (as in every matchstick) lies dormant until it is properly lit or struck by the catalyzing agent. 

Operationally, a traditional book or textbook has long dominated our classrooms as the single, guiding, authoritative source of content.  What happens when technology makes content virtual and therefore inexpensive, accessible, multi-faceted, multi-directional and customizable for individual teachers and students?  Matching the right “book” or virtual content to the right student at the right time becomes an exploding algorithm of selections made completely possible by technology. 

Inspirationally, we believe that access to a quality education should not depend on your zip code but rather be ubiquitous.  We can travel to the most impoverished neighborhoods in America as well as the wealthiest and in both places we will inevitably find a matchbook.  A quality education should be like that.
